I absolutely cannot believe the last weekend in July has come and gone. Very depressing indeed; but, despite the sadness, I managed to have an absolutely lovely weekend. My weekend included volunteering on Saturday morning at a local "adoption day" for shelter dogs that have been rescued and are now up for adoption. Even though these pups have been spared, it's important to find them new homes as soon as possible so that others can be saved! So with that in mind, I've added a couple of new features to this site. On the left sidebar, you'll see the "daily featured pet" from Petfinder.com's website (they're all so cute!). Also, on the bottom, there is a Petfinder search where you can find your next best friend!! :-)
In other news, I tried, for the very first time this weekend, Coldstone Creamery ice cream! All I have to say is.....WOW. It was, by far, THE best ice cream I have EVER had. I got CAKE BATTER ICE CREAM with COOKIE DOUGH chunks. It tasted EXACTLY like vanilla cake batter. It was AMAZING. Unfortch, after eating this ridiculously decadent treat, I felt like I was ready to be harpooned by whalers. Hence, I have decided to go on a diet. It's not that I consider myself to be large, but, as College Roomie perfectly put it, I feel "large for ME." So I found this great website called Weight Loss for All that has a great daily caloric needs calculator on it so that I was able to determine exactly how many calories I should be eating in order to lose weight. I know I've been eating badly, and the lack of exercise hasn't helped the situation, so hopefully, in the few weeks that are left before school starts up again, I can whip my butt into shape (even if it's an indistinguishable shape). Because honestly, things are getting out of control in this neck of the woods!!

Anyone who reads this blog knows that Pup is my very best friend - I could not have asked for a better pet, and Hubby and I absolutely adore him. Before we got Pup, we gave getting a dog a lot of serious thought, and we decided, together, that this would be a good choice for us. Not everyone gives getting a puppy or a kitten as much thought. Some people don't realize, or care, that animals have feelings just like people do. Every animal deserves a loving, happy home. I advocate whenever I can about pets' rights - and yes, pets do have rights for those of you that think "that's just a dog," or "that's just a cat" - when I came across this slideshow presentation I just started crying; and I wanted to post it not to depress everyone who chooses to look at it (because it's really just heartbreaking), but because I want to stress the importance of giving your pet the consideration and respect he deserves - pets aren't toys that you can just give back when you're bored, or if it's "too hard" to train him - if you get a puppy or a kitten, know that you're making a committment for its entire life! Keep your pet safe in an enclosed area and with an ID tag - you wouldn't leave your child roaming the street alone, don't let your pet do it, either! Don't breed your pet just for the sake of making some extra cash - it's not fair to those puppies and kittens who deserve a chance!
Ok, I'm getting off my soapbox now.

I know, two posts in one day - it's feast or famine with me; but I just have to point out how much Pup FARTS! He farts constantly!! They're silent killers most of the time, but other times I just can't believe that such audible sounds come out of such a little butt! Truly, he can rival Hubby on any day. Meanwhile, I just die from the fumes.

I'm in the midst of finals. Although it's only two for these summer classes, I have really done nothing for them thus far, so studying has been quite the feat, to say the least.
As a result, I'm slightly lackluster today, therefore will just make a post on random crap that has recently been bogging me down.
First off, the verdict is in on my previous hair post. Thank you to all who commented and assisted me in making my decision! I also polled BFF and Hubby once again, and my decision has been not to go with the heavy bang. Liberal Banana made a good point when she noted that I don't need "a lot of bangs." (Minds out of the gutter, please!) So after some searching about thanks to T's comment relating to Rachel Bilson, I found a picture that I really liked of her with bangs that are not as heavy, and actually, looks a lot like how I have my hair now, but only slightly different. So here it is:
I'm going to try to call Favorite Hairdresser tomorrow and get an appointment soon. When I see him, I'll ask him what he thinks of these bangs for me. I think they will look nice, and will be a good change, especially because I like the longer length my hair is now, and that tends to get a little boring after a while.
In other news, my computer had a total and complete meltdown the other day during my first exam, and resulted in my having to finish the exam in a bluebook. I KNOW - THE HORROR. Can you imagine???!?!?! It truly is amazing, though - I have taken so many exams in my life that I can't even begin to guess at the number. 90% of those exams were handwritten - it was only in law school that I started taking exams on my laptop - but suddenly, when faced with a pen and a blank sheet of paper, I became the dumbest girl in the room. I didn't know where to start, what to write, HOW to write, nothing! So basically I think I did horribly on that exam. Oh well. It wasn't my fault - it was the laptop's fault!! Damn technology...
I think that's all I have for right about now. I have some other stuff going on family-wise that I would love love love to post about, because I would probably rather pour bleach into my eyes while sticking splinters underneath my fingernails and plucking my toenails off than deal with the current issue, but in the interest online anonymity, I will refrain; but it's hard....it's REALLY hard...alas!
Off to continue studying! Can't wait for this one to be over so that I can start to enjoy what's left of my summer!! Oh, and let's hope that the laptop was just having a temporary "moment" the other day and that it says strong for me this week....

Hubby and I just saw Final Destination 3 (silly, gory, if you like the other Final Destination movies, you'll like this one too). Anyway, the main character, I thought, had really cute bangs, and I was contemplating getting my hair cut this way next time I go see Favorite Hairdresser. However, Hubby things that bangs are horrible and didn't like this cut at all. So I turn to you, my fellow bloggers, and ask - what do you think of this haircut? Is it cute? Fugly? Please give me your opinions!!

Hubby and I went to The Cheesecake Factory for dinner tonight, and I was forced to ask myself this question, as I usually do, when I go to this place.
Going to the Cheesecake Factory (or, as I affectionately like to refer to it, The Buttcake Factory, because that's where the cheesecake goes after it's been consumed - right to my butt) is something of a project.
First, I make the call from home to find out how long the wait is. This question is usually met by the answer, "Oh, we can seat you sometime next week." Realistically, on a Friday night, the wait for two people is more like 55-70 minutes. SIGH.
Ok, so then we get in the car and drive there. Usually Hubby will drop me off at the door. I'll go inside, and wait on line with the rest of the cattle to leave my name and get a pager. Sometimes, there are no pagers left, and the hostess tells me to come back in an hour for a pager. That is when Hubby and I go elsewhere for dinner. Tonight must have been our lucky night, because there were pagers available. So I'll get the pager, and then, despite the warning that "it only works in the restaurant," I'll go outside, get back in the car, and Hubby and I go to do some errands. Today we went to Target. I heart Target.
After about an hour, we head back to The Buttcake. Now nearly all of our wait time has elapsed. Hubby will approach the hostess and ask her how much time until we are seated. She'll usually respond that we are among the next to be seated. Somehow, this seems like a load of crap because everyone and their mother appears to get seated, while we're still waiting. Now I usually start to get upset. I'm usually so hungry at this point that I contemplate approaching a table of people that look like they're done eating for the most part and asking, "You're not going to finish that, are you?" and proceed to pick food off of that patron's plate. Nothing crazy like a steak, but maybe a couple of French fries.
FINALLY the pager will ring, and there is a momentary feeling of elation and glee as I feel that Hubby and I are the lucky, privileged ones to be seated among the menagerie of others waiting.
As I approach the counter to return my pager and be seated, I can't help but almost gloat at the others who are just leaving their names. I'm thinking, "yea....that's right....YOU have to wait now, but I am going to be seated....heh heh heh." Nevermind the fact that I waited an eternity for this table.
And here's the other distressing thing about The Buttcake. Once you forfeit your pager, you're directed to another area to wait again, this time for someone to take you to your table. It's almost like a doctor's office!
Finally, when Hubby and I are seated and enjoying the food (which is good), I can't help but wonder if it's the food that is genuinely good, or if it's just that we worked so hard to finally get to eat it that makes us subconsciously convince ourselves of its worthiness.

The good news (hell, the GREAT news) is that my God-forsaken summer classes have ended. The bad news (and boy, is it bad), is that I have finals next week and I have really done jack crap nothing for these classes all summer long. In fact, for one of them, despite going every week, twice a week, I really couldn't tell you what it was even about. So could be trouble.
But let's focus on real problems here, and that's where it gets ugggggly - my iPod is acting up, and I need to know if anyone else has faced a similar difficulty. Lately, if I charge the thing and use it, then turn it off, and go to use it the next day, the songs I have downloaded won't play. The iPod just skips over them and goes to the next song that I didn't pay for. The only remedy is to plug the iPod back into my computer, if only for a second, and then the problem goes away. Has anyone else had this happen?? Because really, I don't think I can live without my iPod and I'm afraid it's on its way out...

Why, you ask? Because I HATE cleaning. With a passion. Especially the bathroom. When I clean the bathroom, I just want to vomit. Granted, I like how the bathroom looks and smells when I'm done cleaning, and I like using a nice, clean bathroom; but it's the process of getting it nice and clean that makes me want to scratch out my eyeballs with a toilet brush. I hate cleaning so much that it's usually weeks before I get down on my hands and knees to scrub the toilet. My guideline is usually that when the bathroom is so dirty that I feel cleaner before I got in the shower than when I came out of it, that's when it's time to clean.
So today was the day. Not only did I clean both bathrooms, but I washed all the little bathroom rugs, and I swept the entire house. While sweeping, I always can't help but realize how much Pup really sheds. For a short-haired dog, he sure sheds a lot. Today, I swept up enough hair to create a whole new Pup. Or a considerably shaggy wig for a bald man. Any takers?

It's days like today that I wonder why I do this to myself. It doesn't matter that the AC is on. Once I blow dry my hair, I am in need of a whole new shower, because I am just drenched in my own sweat. Perhaps I should shave my head.

I was recently told by a couple of people that I utilize the word "like" way too much. This is kind of news to me. While I know that I do use "like" more than just for comparative purposes, I never really thought that used it too much in speaking. Someone commented that recently during class I said "like" about 30 times while giving an answer. The thought of that made me cringe - and set me on a new crusade, to at least for the most part, obliterate "like" from my vocabulary.
I guess you could say that I use "like" the way someone might use "um" while speaking; but I realize that overuse of "like" may make me sound ditzy or dumb. I don't really mind being considered a little flaky, because realistically speaking here, I can be extremely flaky at times; but I think that can be endearing to a certain extent, and let's face it, it's part of who I am, and I can't really change that; but I don't want to be considered dumb, because I certainly am not. I also want to become a respected lawyer, not the laughing-stock of the ABA. So with that in mind, I am going to try really hard to not say "like" conversationally anymore; and everytime I do, I'm going to smack myself in the face. I know, that's like totally going to hurt!

I came across this today and thought it was fairly bizarre: Burger King planning on making a movie? I don't know how much truth is in this, but it brings me to discuss a topic that has had me disturbed for some time - the uncanny similarity between the Burger King in BK's recent commercials and Val Kilmer. You be the judge:
LOOK AT THE SIMILARITIES!!! Slap a beard and a crown on him ------->
and you have him!
In any event, if there is a Burger King movie in the works, and if it should happen to feature the Burger King, I really hope that Kilmer is considered for the role, because personally, I don't think you could find a more true-to-life representation.

Last week it was time for Pup's yearly visit to the vet, so off we went. I made sure that he had pooped beforehand, because I know that he has a tendency to want to poop once he gets to the vet, and this can oftentimes be an embarrassing ordeal.
When we got to the vet, Pup insisted on harrassing every dog that came in there. Mind you, Pup weighs 90 pounds, so a lot of people don't really appreciate Pup's good natured harrassment. Finally, apparently the staff had enough of his antics and put us in the room to wait for the doctor. Now, Pup gets REALLY excited when he knows that he's going to see the doctor. For whatever reason, he really likes this one vet that we always see, Dr. Pets, and it's like he knows that when we go there, he's going to see Dr. Pets. We sat and waited, and Pup started to get antsy, walking around the room, anxiously awaiting Dr. Pets' arrival. Suddenly, however, I saw Pup pop a squat - and out came a MOUNTAIN of poop!!!! It was enormous!! And the stench was enough to nearly bring tears to my eyes!! As soon as the nurse and Dr. Pets entered the room, I thought they were going to pass out from the smell!! Even after it was cleaned up, the stench remained.
The exam began, Pup got his nails trimmed, and then it was time to....dum, dum dum dum...drain the anal glands. For anyone that doesn't know, dogs have these glands in their butts that release a weird smell sometimes, kind of like a skunk. Most of the time they take care of themselves, but sometimes they get a little full and start to smell all the time, and need to be drained by the vet. So poor Dr. Pets got to work on taking care of that aspect of the visit, and honestly, the odor that came out of there made the poop smell like a bunch of roses. Needless to say, once we let that room, it was RIPE. I honestly couldn't wait to get out of there!!! Thankfully, it was over relatively quickly, and now Pup is happy as can be!! Woof woof!

[Sigh......] I think today's Oprah was a repeat - she had on the cast of Brokeback Mountain. WOOO WEEEE is Jake Gyllenhaal fine...wow. I've been a fan of his since the obscure but fantastic Donnie Darko, and lordy lord, that boy just keeps getting cuter and cuter and cuter. I was supposed to read for class, but I watched Oprah instead. There was no way I could turn away from those baby blues once they came on the TV. He mentioned that during the filming of Brokeback he was getting over an ended relationship - was that girl nuts?? Granted, maybe he broke up with her, but still.....ok I'm going to go ogle over Jake pics....[sigh.......]

Sorry I've been slacking on the postings. I'm finally over my dreariness regarding Law Review, thanks to you, my fine readers. Law Review, Shlaw Review, right? I'm still going to be a kickass attorney (hopefully)!!!!
I have a post that I've been ruminating over for a couple of days and just need to write it out, but I'm at work at the moment and have all my blogs to read up on, all the while attempting to look busy and engrossed in actual office work so that I can justify what they pay me here, so here's what I have for now:
I have acquired a new food obsession - Dannon la Creme Mousse in French Vanilla. The website proclaims that it's so good, you can even have it for dessert, and they're not kidding. It really is that yummy. Apparently there is also a version of the mousse that has chocolate pieces in it. Chocolate!! I really may have to try that one next time I'm at the food store, because it sounds delish. Au revoir!

I found out today with a 99.96% probability that I did not make it onto a law journal at my school. I am very distressed about this. It could be that I'm seriously PMS'ing today, but when I got the news earlier today, I nearly started to cry. My head is filled with horrific thoughts of not getting a decent job after graduation, of not even making it to graduation, that maybe I'm just a moron, etc. You get the picture. So needless to say, not a great day today.
As I was wallowing in my own misery and self-pity, I browsed over to The Littlest Tortfeasor and found she had posted a variation on the quiz that I did in my last post. Because I have nothing else to add today, and tomorrow is the 4th of July which somehow always makes my stomach hurt, I'm doing the same meme/quiz/whatever you want to call it. Give me a day, the chipper LawNut will be back tomorrow, but for today, I'm going to be sad.
